Support for Reps

There are a number of people who can provide support and guidance to you as a Rep.

Your Union: The Representation team 

Based in the Union, the Representation Team are your primary point of contact. They work all year-round and provide training, support and resources to empower and equip you in your role.

  • Representation Coordinator: Gabi Fulton - the first point of contact for any wellbeing  and academic rep queries.

Your Officer Trustees

A team of elected full-time officers are here to support you too! They will be present at meetings at both the Union and College so will have a good understanding of changes taking place across Imperial in a range of different areas.

Your Department & College

There are several key contacts within your department or across College who you will work with and who are here to help you. One of the first things we recommend doing as a newly elected Rep is introducing yourself to the following people to start building positive relationships.

For Undergraduates

  • Departmental Administrator: responsible for managing the interaction of students and programmes
  • Lecturers & Year Organisers: deliver taught content directly to students
  • Director of Undergraduate Studies: also known as 'DUGS' oversee the undergraduate recruitment process, curriculum structure and monitors progression & completion. 
  • Senior Tutor: has overall responsibility for personal and academic tutoring in the department and the general welfare of students
  • Head of Department: responsible for the department and staff
  • Faculty Senior Tutor: has responsibility for ensuring the delivery of consistent, high-quality support for students in their personal, general, academic and professional development. They support personal and senior tutors and can provide additional support and guidance for students in any faculty. 

For Postgraduates

  • Postgraduate Administrators: they have various roles including interaction and communications with students, administration of research and teaching programmes, etc. They are a key source of information in your department!
  • Lecturers, Supervisors and Course Leaders: interact directly with students and are the primary point of guidance and support. 
  • Director of Postgraduate Studies: also known as 'DPS' and oversees the postgraduate recruitment process, curriculum structure and monitors progression and completion. They are responsible for implementing the postgraduate education policy.
  • Senior Tutor or Postgraduate Tutor: has overall responsibility for personal and academic tutoring in the department & general welfare of students
  • Head of Department: responsible for the department and staff
  • Faculty Senior Tutor: have responsibility for ensuring the delivery of consistent, high-quality support for students in their personal, general, academic and professional development. They support personal and senior tutors and can provide additional support and guidance for students in any faculty. 
  • Graduate School: The staff at the Graduate School provide additional skills training for Postgraduate Reps, some of which is credit-bearing. They also provide funding and support for cohort building for research students.
